IPTV / LIVE STREAMING SOFTWARE

Cronomagic Encoder

Run your live TV channels on your own Linux server. The Cronomagic Encoder pulls your live sources, publishes every channel as HLS for web and apps, keeps channels on air and lets your team manage everything from a web dashboard.

What the Encoder does

Every common source

Pull live streams over HTTP/HLS, SRT, UDP, RTMP, RTSP or RIST.

Light on the server

Channels are re-packaged without re-encoding, so picture quality is untouched and one server runs dozens of channels. Sources should be H.264 + AAC for web playback.

HLS and more outputs

Every channel is published as HLS for web and apps. It can also push to RTMP, SRT, UDP or RIST and record to segment files (DVR recording).

Always on air

A watchdog restarts failed channels, switches to a backup source and back automatically, detects hung streams and resumes channels after a reboot.

Picture and sound monitoring

Live thumbnails plus black, frozen and silent detection, with alerts by email, Telegram or webhook.

Viewers and embedding

Live viewer counts and history per channel, and an embeddable web player restricted to the websites you approve.

Team and control

Admin, Operator and Viewer roles, login protection and an audit log. Bulk actions, tags, CSV/JSON channel import/export, a REST API and Let's Encrypt HTTPS.

Server requirements

  • A 64-bit (x86_64) Linux server with Debian 12 or newer, or Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, and root access.
  • Minimum 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 20 GB of disk (more for DVR recording). Each channel uses about 70 MB of RAM and a small fraction of one CPU core.
  • Sources in H.264 video with AAC audio for playback in web browsers.
  • Bandwidth is usually the limit: each viewer receives the channel's bitrate (about 3 to 5 Mbps in HD), so 1 Gbit/s serves about 250 HD viewers at once.
  • Inbound TCP ports 80 and 443 open. Outbound HTTPS to encoder.cronomagic.com for the license check, plus whatever your sources use.
  • A license for the server's public IP address. It is linked to the first server that activates it.
